The invitation to replenish, subdue and govern appears to remain in some form throughout Scripture.

Those living in poverty, foreigners, widows and orphans figure prominently in God’s instructions to defend, deliver and protect those who are vulnerable. The sabbatical laws were for replenishing the soil as much as they were a call for the restoration and replenishment of the workers. The forgiveness of debts and release of bonded laborers on an every-seven-year cycle, along with the Jubilee every forty-nine years, was an invitation to correct things that had become imbalanced. Harmony, restitution, reconciliation and liberation are themes running throughout Scripture, and God’s people were expected to play a role as carriers of God’s virus of shalom.
